Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup whole milk (warm)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- Zest of 1 large orange
- 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, warm the whole milk until lukewarm.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let sit for about five minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, orange zest, ground cardamom, and half of the flour. Mix until combined.
- Gradually add remaining flour to form a soft dough. Turn onto a floured surface and knead for about eight minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about one hour).
- Punch down the risen dough gently to release air bubbles. Roll out into a rectangle about half an inch thick.
- Cut into squares or rectangles and roll each piece tightly from one end to another.
- Place shaped buns on a greased baking sheet or muffin tins. Cover and let rise again until puffed (about thirty minutes).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about twenty minutes or until golden brown.
- While buns cool slightly on wire racks, whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth.
- Drizzle glaze generously over warm buns before serving.
