Description

Indulge in the ultimate comfort food with this Garlic Butter Steak & Cheddar Potato Bake. Tender sirloin steak is seared to perfection and layered with creamy, cheesy potatoes, all infused with aromatic garlic. This dish promises to warm your heart and impress at any gathering, making it the ideal choice for cozy family dinners or a delightful weeknight treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sirloin steak
  • 4 medium Yukon Gold potatoes, sliced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh thyme, for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare a large baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Season the sirloin steak with salt and pepper. In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Sear the steak for about 3-4 minutes per side until browned but not fully cooked. Remove from heat and let rest.
  3. In a bowl, combine sliced potatoes with remaining butter (melted), minced garlic, salt, pepper, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Layer half of the potato mixture in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Slice the rested steak into strips and layer over potatoes. Add another layer of the remaining potato mixture on top.
  5. Pour heavy cream evenly over all layers and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes; then remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.

Keywords: Letting the steak rest before slicing helps retain its juices. For added flavor, consider incorporating fresh herbs like rosemary or chives before serving. You can substitute different cuts of steak or use sweet potatoes for a healthier twist.
