Red Velvet Valentine’s Day Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful twist on a classic treat, combining rich red velvet flavor with warm cinnamon and topped with creamy icing for an irresistible breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup buttermilk, lukewarm
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine lukewarm buttermilk, granulated sugar, and yeast. Let it sit until bubbly (about five minutes).
  2. Add softened butter, eggs, cocoa powder, red food coloring, and flour to the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth (about five minutes).
  3. Place in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about one hour).
  4. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon with softened butter in a separate bowl.
  5. Punch down the risen dough and roll it into a rectangle on a floured surface.
  6. Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough and roll tightly into a log.
  7. Cut into twelve equal pieces and place them in a greased baking pan.
  8. Cover and let rise again until puffed (about thirty minutes). Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake for about twenty-five minutes or until golden brown.
  10. In a mixing bowl, whip together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  11. Drizzle icing over warm rolls before serving.
